Janelle Durham's bio
Janelle oversees PEPS program operations, focusing on program planning, curriculum development, group oversight, and outcome evaluations. She does everything she can to ensure every parent has the best PEPS experience possible!
Background: Janelle began a career as a medical social worker supporting families experiencing chronic or terminal illness. In 1993, Janelle gave birth to her first daughter, joined a PEPS Group, and began her journey down a new career path. In the past 16 years, Janelle has worked in several capacities, all providing support to new parents. She led several PEPS groups, then became a labor support doula, trained as a postpartum doula and lactation consultant. She then became a childbirth educator, first with Swedish Hospital, then with Great Starts Birth & Family Education. She has taught thousands of parents over the years. She is excited to now be returning to work at PEPS, which started it all! Janelle also works as Great Starts trainer and consultant for Parent Trust for Washington Children, and is a co-author of Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn.
Outside of PEPS: Janelle's non-work interests revolve around family and two children, ages 12 and 16; skiing, writing fiction, theater, and historical dance. She serves on the board of Eastside Preparatory School in Kirkland.
Education: Janelle holds a BA from Brandeis University, a Master of Social Work degree from University of Washington, and a professional certificate in Spirituality, Health and Medicine from Bastyr University. She is a certified doula, lactation educator, and childbirth educator.
