Parent Talk Lecture Series
PEPS Parent Talk Lecture Series was developed so that parents can continue to learn and share with others beyond their initial PEPS experience. Parent Talk Lectures quickly filled up last year and this year promises to be just as great! In order to reserve your seat, we kindly suggest a tax-deductible donation of $10.00.
Please note that all PEPS lectures are for parents only. Tiny babes in arms are welcome, but we ask that children stay home with a caregiver.
Introducing Foods: A Three Course Meal - Susanna Block, MD

Dr. Susanna Block will go through the 3 "courses" of introducing your baby to solid foods: Course 1 deals with the 4 stages of taste development. Course 2 explains when certain foods are best introduced and which foods they are best paired with. Course 3 will tackle Organics- which, if any, really matter!
Susanna Block, MD is a Pediatric Board Certified, American Academy Pediatrics Fellow. During this workshop, speech pathologist Shannon Salverda, will help you shape speech and language skills in your little one during this interactive workshop using sign language and other methods. Shannon Salverda, M.S., CCC-SLP has a Bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Science and a Master's of Science in Communicative Disorders with an emphasis in pediatric neurology. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association and is trained in a variety of teaching methods. Perhaps most importantly, Shannon is the mother of two glorious young ones. She founded Chatterbox Learning to meld her passion for teaching and communication with the desire to spend more time with her own chattering children as they grow. Did you know that babies start learning language while in the womb? Jackie Friedman Mighdoll will share some of the compelling research on language acquisition and the many benefits that come with exposing children to world languages at a very young age. Our kids are growing up in a global society, and Jackie explores different ways parents can introduce language and culture to babies and young children, and ideas for making the most out of the opportunities in our multicultural city.
Jackie Friedman Mighdoll is founder and president of Sponge, a leader in children’s language education with classes in Spanish, Mandarin, French and Japanese at its own centers and in before- and after-school programs throughout the greater Seattle area (www.spongeschool.com). She founded Sponge in 2005 to help children have rich language experiences from an early age. Jackie has been working internationally and inter-culturally for two decades. She has an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Masters in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. She is mom to two little world citizens, ages 4 and 6.

After the birth of their first child, 2 out of 3 parents are less satisfied and more irritable in their relationship. In this talk, Jennyfer will share the results of 35 years of research about what helps parents stay connected and recapture a fulfilling partnership.
Jennyfer Raden MA, LMHC, holds a BA in Psychology from Whitman College and a MA in Applied Behavioral Sciences from Bastyr University. Her counseling practices are based on her 13 years of experience helping families move from distress to health. She has advanced training from the Gottman Institute in research based methods of relationship therapy and providing proven tools to strengthen new families. Her Professional experience includes Loving Couples Loving Children, Family Preservation Services, Child and Family Mental Health,Adult Mental Health Services.
